Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge-Rat Barges is a river rafting ride based on the beloved comic character ‘Popeye’.
It opened way back in 1999 and that was quite special as it was the first rafting attraction Universal had opened at any of its parks.
The ride is located in the Toon Lagoon region of Islands of Adventure. This region is based on characters from the King Features Syndicate and Jay Ward comics.
The region also consists of one other water ride along with play areas for children to enjoy safe fun in the water. It is mostly based on water rides.
The only way to save the only one that Popeye loves more than spinach is an 18-foot Octopus. Are you up for the challenge?
The story of this ride is as follows: Bluto likes Olive, Olive likes Popeye, and Bluto doesn’t like that. So he takes off with Olive and you then join Popeye in his mission to rescue her.
The queue for Popeye and Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges looks like a ferry. The guests approach Popeye’s boatload but find it closed. They then go to ‘Bluto’s Bilge Rat Barges’ and the ride begins from there.
The 6-minute ride with 12 riders seated in a circular raft is a fun, less intense one. The raft travels through the water body, twisting and dipping as you go along.

Also, those under 48 inches require someone to accompany them for supervision.
