Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is an indoor steel roller coaster. The ride also uses special effects, 3-D projection and motion simulation for a stirring escapade.

Enter the famous wizarding world from JK Rowling’s novels and the movies in one of the finest attractions at Universal Orlando.

Ride Location

Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts ride is located in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter region at Universal Studios Florida.

It is in the Diagon Alley part of the themed area.

The ride opened in 2014 and replaced Jaws: The Ride in the amusement park.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is completely based on the popular franchise, with all rides and attractions geared toward that theme.

The area actually exists across two parks in Universal Studios Orlando. The first phase is in Islands of Adventure, and the second is in Universal Florida.

The Universal Florida region is called Diagon Alley, while the region in Islands of Adventure is known as Hogsmeade (London).

In Universal Studios Florida, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts is the big attraction of this region, while in Islands of Adventure, it is Hagrid’s Magical Creature Motorbike Adventure.

Visitors can go from one of these regions to another by hopping on the Hogwarts Express, which travels between the two amusement parks.

There are many rides, shops and other types of attractions present in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter area.

This area is especially a delight for the Harry Potter novel and movie enthusiasts.

Queue

The ride queue begins in the Gringotts Bank’s lobby. There is an outdoor area that is used during busier days. The queue is beautifully designed to look like the bank, as seen in the movie.

Bogrod, one of the bank’s tellers, is waiting for guests who are visiting to open accounts.

You then see the vaults along with Bogrod and undergo a security check where an ID picture gets taken. This picture is actually an on-ride photo that you can purchase.

You then pass an area featuring the issues of the wizarding newspaper ‘Daily Prophet’, which contains many easter egg headlines.

In one of the bank employee offices, you spot shadows of Griphook, Harry Potter, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger (disguised as Bellatrix Lestrange).

They have snuck inside the Gringotts Wizarding Bank and are plotting to find something and make away with it.

Further on in the queue, you enter Bill Weasley’s office, where goblin Blodrak attends to you. He guides you towards the vaults through an elevator.

In that elevator, a moving goblin portrait explains the safety precautions of the ride as you reach the vaults, wear cart goggles and go to the cart station.

The Ride

The story of the Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts Universal Studios Orlando ride is similar to the scene in the eighth and final Harry Potter movie where they look to steal a possible horcrux from the bank.

You board your cart and move along the tracks on it as a security breach is reported at the bank. The devious Bellatrix Lestrange arrives and tries to cut you off.

She tilts the cart and sends you falling down. You are saved by Bill Weasley’s spell as Griphook, Harry, Ron and Hermione (now herself) appear.

Their cart falls from up high as trolls chase them, leading to Bill and Blodrak falling off theirs.

A troll pushes your cart into more waiting trolls. As you try to fight them off, the cart falls again and Bill casts ‘Arresto Momentum’ again to save you from hitting the ground.

The danger doesn’t end there, as you are faced with a Ukrainian Ironbelly that breathes fire. Bill casts ‘Aquamenti’ to save you as water sprays you on the ride.

You and all the protagonists take shelter in vaults, but Voldemort’s evil pet, Nagini, appears to attack all of you.

To make matters worse, Bellatrix also appears along with Voldemort, who questions you about the location of Harry Potter.

This leads to torture from the villains as the heroes try to fight back in a bid to escape and secure the Horcrux.

Can you escape Voldemort and others’ attack? What happens when Harry comes face to face with his nemesis? How do you find a way out?

Get answers to all of these questions with a ticket to Universal Studios Orlando. Get a ticket to any or all the three parks in Universal Studios Orlando for 1 or 2 days.
