Despicable Me Minion Mayhem

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a motion simulation ride at Universal Studios Florida based on the 2010 film Despicable Me.

It is also present in various other Universal theme parks.

The Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Orlando version opened in 2012. This attraction used 3-D high-definition digital animation. The ride switched to 2-D from 2019 onwards.

This is an amusing ride that is enjoyable for all.

The fun, unpredictable and light-hearted nature of this attraction entices people of all ages to check it out and provides the type of entertainment everyone can enjoy.

Minion Land – Where The Fun Begins

Despicable Me Minion Mayhem at Universal Studios Florida is located in the Minion Land region.

This region opened only in August 2023 and is minion-themed. Previously, the attraction was part of the Production Central area.

Apart from Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, this area also includes other attractions such as the Super Silly Stuff store, Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast, Minions’ Cafe and other places for eating, shopping and meet-and-greets.

Ride Experience

The ride vehicle is activated with a loud noise as it rises into a huge tunnel.

The vehicle arrives at a conveyor belt and is pushed through doors. On the other side of the doors, Gru’s daughters Agnes, Edith and Margo zap the guests.

Edith orders a minion to zap the guests again as he pulls a lever to activate the Minion Gun and transforms them into minions.

The vehicle is pushed into a long tube into the Minion Training Grounds. The vehicle then goes on a rocky journey full of unpredictable movements.

The guests are shot at by water sprayers and the vehicle falls on a trampoline and into a cactus.

Before crossing a laser maze, guests must dodge giant fly swatters and other challenges.

The vehicle stops in front of Minions, holding a ‘STOP’ sign. A big boxing glove punches the vehicle and the minions as the vehicle goes backward in the air and lands on a trapdoor.

The guests go down with the vehicle in a pit where Gru’s daughters test their problem-solving skills and instruct them to make a human hand-esque chain to get across to the other side.

The minions get distracted by Edith using banana as bait and this chaos breaks the human hand chain as the guests fall into the bomb transportation sector.

This brings Gru on the screen, agitated at what is happening. The daughters try to get the vehicle out of there.

Suddenly, a bomb falls and explodes below and sets off other bombs. Agnes loses the gift to Gru, and the guests try to save it while dodging bombs and explosions.

The vehicle gets stuck on two cogs as Agnes grabs the gift but strong winds from below send the vehicle and the gift flying.

More chaos ensues as everybody tries to save the gift while the botched Minionisation process faces many more challenges.

The experience takes guests through many challenges in different rooms, as seen in the movie. To avoid spoiling the ride, we have just mentioned the start.

With 2-Park Universal express passes, you can maximize your time at Universal Orlando by getting priority access to attractions like the entertaining Despicable Me Minion Mayhem.

Can you rescue the gift? Will Gru be successful in turning you into a Minion? Can you, other guests, Gru, his daughters and the Minions survive this plan gone wrong?

Enjoy the unpredictable ride that is tons of fun by visiting Universal Studios Orlando.

Queue and Pre-Show

In the queue, while waiting, people get to learn about Minion recruitment, the characters of Gru, Dr. Nefario, Margo, Edith, Agnes and the Minions.

Guests also take part in a minion-based quiz that tests their knowledge about the franchise and keeps them busy.

In Universal Studios Florida Despicable Me Minion Mayhem is a little less detailed as compared to the Hollywood version, which looks like Gru’s house.

In the pre-show, when the guests enter the room, Gru, Margo, Edith and Agnes greet them and welcome the guests to their house.

They tell the guests that they will train as minions and what to expect.

Gru then asks the guests to proceed to his lab, where a fart gun unceremoniously greets them with a repulsive smell.

In the next room, Gru reveals his evil plan to the guests, informing them that they will be turned into Minions with the help of Dr. Nefarious’ Minion Gun.

Gru talks about eliminating the errors from the initial test and that the weapon is ready.

The captive guests are now taken for a scan to detect ‘human germs’. The scan jibes that some of the guests haven’t showered in a week, which Gru remarks as ‘gross’.

Gru tells the audience to shower after the process and threatens to use the fart gun on anyone trying to back out.

Agnes and Margo then show up and calm the guests down, believing that Gru is just using the threat as a scare tactic.

However, as soon as they are done talking, Gru tries to inflict misery on the guests and shoots the fart gun but it releases a banana scent.

Agnes tries to gift Gru a present but he is in a hurry to start the process to turn humans into Minions.

Agnes and Margo request Gru to let them train the guests and after a bit of convincing, Gru reluctantly agrees.

Agnes, Edith and Margo are excited to oversee the training as the doors to Despicable Me Minion Mayhem open.

The Japanese version of this ride features one more segment where the girls and Gru tell the guests about the process and rules humorously.

It also ends slightly differently than Despicable Me Minion Mayhem Florida and other versions.
